October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's a chance to raise awareness about the importance of finding breast cancer early.
Breast cancer is one of the most common kinds of cancer in women. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point. The good news is that most women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. A mammogram – the screening test for breast cancer – can help find breast cancer early when it’s easier to treat. Get tested!
Free cancer screening may be available for men and women with little or no health insurance who live in Westchester County. Services include:
- Mammograms
- Breast exams
- Pap tests
- Pelvic exams
- HPV vaccine for women ages 19 to 26
- Colorectal health screening
- Prostate treatment information
For free or low-cost cancer screening, call the New York State Cancer Services Program toll free at 1-866-442-2262, which can connect you to a provider near you. Also available is the Cancer Services Resource Guide which is to be used to promote awareness about the importance of breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening and improve the quality of cancer screening-related care to New Yorkers.
