prenatal care

Prenatal care for expectant mothers assures the best start in life for your baby.

Go Before You Show is a new initiative to encourage pregnant women to seek prenatal care in the first three months of their pregnancy and to link them to a prenatal care provider as early as possible in their pregnancy. It will help you with insurance and connect you to care for you and your baby.

"Real Women of Westchester County’" tell all about prenatal care in these Go Before You Show/YouTube videos.

  • Real Women of Westchester County 1
  • Real Women of Westchester County 2

The goal is to improve the health of babies born in Westchester. More than a quarter of all babies born in the county in 2008 were born to women who had late or no prenatal care and more than 1,000 babies born that year weighed less than 5.5 pounds, according to the most recent figures available from the county health department.

Community health workers, through the New York State funded Healthy Families New York and the Community Health Worker Programs work with community based organizations, Westchester County Department of Social Services and other healthcare partners, to identify pregnant women in need of prenatal care and to assist them and their family members with necessary services. Special emphasis is placed on outreaching to women at high-risk for poor birth outcomes.

These programs provide home visits to best meet individual and family needs. Community outreach workers monitor prenatal care throughout each pregnancy and continue to follow the family until the baby turns a year old. The program insures that the children have a primary care physician, receive regular check-ups, immunizations, dental screening and lead testing.
